About

About Americans for a Stronger Navy

Americans for a Stronger Navy works to help Americans better understand the importance of maritime strength, naval readiness, and the industrial base that sustains the fleet.

For many Americans, the Navy becomes visible only during moments of crisis — when a carrier deploys, tensions rise in the South China Sea, or conflict emerges in the Middle East. But the strength of the Navy is not determined in the middle of a crisis. It is built over years and sometimes decades in shipyards, classrooms, research labs, and the industrial base that supports the fleet.

Through articles, interviews, and educational initiatives such as Charting the Course: Voices That Matter, Americans for a Stronger Navy connects experts, veterans, historians, and policy voices to help the public better understand the forces shaping the future of the U.S. Navy.

The goal is simple: help Americans understand why maritime strength matters and why sustaining the Navy requires long-term national commitment.

Americans for a Stronger Navy

Bill Cullifer served as a blue-water destroyer sailor in the U.S. Navy during the 1970s. After a career in telecommunications and web technologies, he founded Americans for a Stronger Navy to help encourage informed public discussion about the future of American sea power.

Today he leads StrongerNavy.org, a community-driven initiative dedicated to strengthening public understanding of naval readiness, shipbuilding, maritime infrastructure, and the strategic role of sea power in protecting global stability.

Cullifer often describes himself simply as a student of naval affairs, working to connect voices that matter and translate complex maritime issues so Americans can better understand the challenges facing the fleet.
